...Maybe. I don't want the event to end, but for now I'm glad to have a break. Read more:
http://www.organicmetal.co.uk/MVGC/announcement.htm

While I'm here and now the event's stopped, I wanna mention how brain dead stupid some people are! (I'm sounding like Neo! /jk )

Go to the mvgc home page, read the rules, submit your fan art, read the faq before asking a question. It's a simple event, a simple concept and a simple web site, but there's always 1.. or in the case of the last 3 years of MVGC, 25!

There's been at least 10-15 people submit artwork that wasn't illustrating the chosen monthly character. Why do some people go to the effort of emailing their art and info, but can't seem to be bothered to actually find out what the web site is about to begin with! The funniest ones are characters that people just make up, then send along with some accompanying text saying something along the lines of "this is a character I drawed for a computer game"...

And take HalfAx's submission- visits the mvgc home page then posts a topic on the forum asking how to send art. Then emails me asking the same thing a few hours later. I reply with:
---
Hi there,

If you'd like to submit Soul Calibur art to the MVGC, you can either email it to me or email me a link to where I can download the picture. Please read the rules at: http://www.organicmetal.co.uk/MVGC/MVGCindex.htm

- Ben
---
So he sends a badly drawn copy of an official illustration of Link from Zelda which as stated in the rules won't be put in the gallery since everyone hates a copy cat trying to be cute.. I thought I said please read the rules and even supplied a link to the rules page?

Just a week previous to this, someone sends in some official Namco artwork of Knightmare and writes:
i was bored i found this site n i thought i might as well make an entry im
probably not as good as some others out there but i try lol this is my first
entry so go easy on me
You "try"? all you try to do is get away with ripping off other's efforts to reap some sort of praise..

Most artists were cool, but there's unfortunately always a minority of annoying people that seem to either enjoy trying to p!$$ me off or who are so stupid they don't even need to try but manage to frustrate!

Ugh yeah stuff like that always happens, it always wakes me wonder about the person behind the keyboard.
Take a good well-deserved rest from it, I'm sure you have higher priorities as it is (haha, easy for me to say, I never entered the contest )

Damn, the 1st MVGC I ever entered (sorry about the size of the file Bomu, my fault for makin u have to shrink it m8), and it's over already (albeit, possibly temporarily)!
Silly smartarse wankers (sorry for the swearing) thinkin they can pull a fast one by submitting someone else's work as theirs, eh? I got one thing to say - it's called plagiarism. It may sound like a big word, but it certainly ain't big, and it ain't clever.

Ugh, stupid schoolwork and other crises meant I never got to enter as much as I wanted to. Having said that, I'm really pleased with the entries I did put in - I think the Alice one in particular is one of my fave pictures I've drawn. Anyway I'll get to the point - Bomu, if you don't feel like hosting a full blown website competition any more (or at least not for the time being) why not leave this thread open for little competitions suggested by us instead, or just keep it as a place to put VG fanart for that matter? That way, you'd even have a chance to enter without having to worry about stupid brain dead plagarist people!

Hey jbinc84

I think that is a really good idea if we could just post pics on this thread we could still have MVGC competitions, so if thats cool with Ben lets do it. Ok now lets pick out a character to draw, if anyone out there has a suggestion post it here. I would like to draw Iori or any of the KOF characters. If this could work while MVGC is on break that would be the best. So post any suggestoins here. thanx

oh see if you can name where that quote is from below

I dont mind if anyone wants to use a forum thread for fan art postings. I think a lot of people are scared of message boards so I'd imagine some of the regulars would rather go off and do their own things?
But yeah, that'd be cool if people want to post character art from previous months or new game characters entirely

well, if we can use the thread for suggestions, I suggest we do a street fighter character and if bomu's too busy to judge or whatever, get a mod to do it.

The mods are Bomu(owner as well) bugsy and G.I.A.m .

those are the only mods so far and think for awhile, I think ben might only hire one more if we start getting alot more people on.

i know this sounds really crappy (and I bet the usual MVGC was way more sophisticated) but couldn't one of us (you can look at me if you want) set up a dodgy but effective site in Piczo and then have a link to a poll on this board where everyone can vote?

Well by all means you can do what ever you want, the point of an mvgc here was so the members could join in and maybe have a chat afterwards about their drawings. I spos you could try and host your own but, it my be a little difficult.

EDIT BY ADMIN: We have this little thing where this annoying random guy posts a one word reply on this thread, which has nothing to do with anything. Then I take 2 seconds to delete it. The process then repeats itself several times

Heh- I re-read my initial post on this thread from 2 years ago.. I remember now- The MVGC used to attract stupid people!

For those interested, my current thoughts are :

The MVGC was cool and helped give people an extra incentive to draw and display their fanart. Thinking back, It wasn't all bad, but I'm glad I put the even on hold. After 2 years of me not running it, I'm thinking I might as well scrap it completely...

I stopped running and hosting MVGC for several reasons:

- I felt there wasn't much point if only a one or two people would enter each month- I don't wanna invest time in stuff like this if there's no massive demand for it.
- I used to spend hours scouting around the web for participants. Some months it was more like a job to put together a gallery of existing work than simply Administrating an event.
-It was cool to run it at first as it was generating hits to Organic Metal and associated me with a cool arty event idea, but it ended up associating me with a flop so that didn't help.
- A Quarter of participants were annoying children.

The plan to deal with these issues was to create an interactive site whereby artists would be given an account login and ability to upload their own works for display each month leaving little work for an admin. I'd be happy designing the site layout but I'm no programming wizard, so to pull this off, I'd have to spend a few hundred quid on a developer and hosting fees. If anyone with good PHP skills could do this for free, let me know!!

A plan to popularize the MVGC was to get in sponsors giving away freebies in return to banner linking- I didn't properly investigate this route, but woulda given it a go..

I had created a new structure for each month's task too. Instead of just "Draw character X", the task might be "Draw a gaming guy fighting a gaming Gal" This woulda been pretty fun. Maybe we could just do stuff like this on the forum?

So yeh, I'll be getting rid of the MVGC link from the OM Home Page and Nav-Bar and quit having anything to do with it.

In the mean time, like when Tri was running MVGC for a bit, if anyone else wants to make a site for it and run it like I used to, go for it! Just dont say I didn't warn you if you experience the same problems I did

Thanks for your thoughts on this, Bomu.

My idea wasn't to run it EVERY month because I don't have the time when I'm back at school, so probably more on a 4 times a year basis (if theres a technical word for that). I think this would be effective in the sense that people would get time to develop their skills further between contests and also it would be easier for me because I would run them when I was on school holidays and I have the extra time to commit.

I think your idea about not choosing a certain character and more or less saying to draw a certain scene or theme as such, is really good.

Anyway, If I finish the (very dodgy) site, I'll be sure to post the link on here.

Yeah, main problem with that is getting people to attend it frequently.. I'd say a monthly contest is a bit insane specially for one man to get it all done, with other things going on in your life.

I know the MVGC has a nice ring to it, but I'd say go with a more relaxed time. I suggest if someone starts it up again probably think about doing it once every 2months/3months. I think quarters is a tad too long some might not even care due to the contest run-time.

I believe it would be best to run it as a 2 Month Duration; somewhat like 1-1/2month actual contest participation and have the rest of the remaining time till the new month starts. That way when you have to maintain it's functional ability in judging, awards, commenting, and forums whatever that may be it mainly won't be a major hassle if you consider doing sponsor prizes.

But, as Bomu said open board events are going to be way more enjoyable doing them sparingly.
