I have killed my old scanner finally, and I am in the market for a new one that wont break my bank, I want a scanner detailed enough to pick up light pencil marks, I just got Paint Shop pro 7, and Photoshop 7 so I want to get back into the art scene.

I got an A4 Acer S2W 4300U scanner, which I'm satisfied with. It wasn't too expensive as far as I remember.

Hewlett Packards low-end scanners are pretty good value and very reliable, their comprehensive website offers invaluable tech support.

Yeah, I've never had any problems with my HP scanner, although it wasnt exactly affordable, but Im sure you could pick up lower end models which work well as SlumDogs says. I reckon as long as it picks up something like 1200x1200 pixels or slightly under, you'll be fine

HP scanners! HP scanners! they're not exactly cheap, mine cost. . $100 *which is good in my opinion* and its my best friend! @__@

mine is called hp scanjet 3400c

thanx for the opponons I went eith a low end (but not bottom of the barrel low) HP, scans something like 1200 by 2400 anyway you'll bee seeing the WIP threads being flooded again (jk Bomu, i'll keep it donw this time lol)

I have an HP ScanJet 4200C, it worked really well the first couple months, but now it's a paperweight. I cannot get it to work AT ALL, even through extensive scouring of HP's support site. Many people seem to have problems with the 4200C, so stay away from it!!!

My scanner was chucked in with the PC so I'm guessing it was very cheap, but I've never had any problems with it, apart from it being only a4 size, my sketch pad is A3 Its Packard Bell Diamond 1200 plus.

SilentDan- You can still scan your work in two parts, then join them up in Photoshop! I know it sounds obvious but I remember being like "how the hell do I scan my A3 artwork" for ages!

I have the HP scanjet 3570c. It's one of the newest ones out and scans pictures and photos beatifully. I think it cost around $200 -$400. It's not cheap like most HP scanners but man is it worth it.
