I went to a weekly Japanese class to learn. Although I gave up after several months as it started getting too difficult and too boring! So if I were to go again, I'd try to go with a friend so we can learn together and help each other- in class we worked from the 'Japanese for busy people' text book, but I'm sure there's other good books around and if you find any fun ones- let me know

It seems it's almost impossable to find a teachers 4 this kinda stuff. I would think the best way to learn would be to be dropped off in japan and forced to learn so u can live there. I don't know maby me and my japan pen pal will work out a way? the world of pictures is blind to no culture. In other words I could make little computer made cartoons that work like a picture book. that might work.

-------------------- Ezekiel 25:17
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

wa never mentention that movie mister crouse couldnt even use a real sword (they used computer generated swords in the fight scenes)
but that aside. my tip for learning hiragana is, to write (use pencil) every sign on a small card and the meaning on the other side (every sign represents a syllable). now take all the cards and mix them up. then look at the card and try to guess the meaning (also saying it out loud helps alot) then turn the card around and see if you guessed it right. then proceed trough all the cards.
Doing this everyday for 30min will make you pretty save in recognizing those signs in maybe 2 weeks.
also if you learned the hiragana signs you will wanna start with the katakana signs next, they represent the exact same syllable but look different and is used for all words that are not native japanese (your name would be written in katakana for example). To learn that simply remove the english letters on the card ( you dont need them anymore you know the hiragana signs now) and write down the katakana on that side. now you use the hiragana ones as controll side if you did everything right.
One thing tho keep in mind that learning these means only learning two of the four alphapets (the 4th is the english alphabet ) not japanese itself.
