you know the little PC.
Maybe some of the gaming heros from it like duke nukem, monkey island or Jill of the Jungle or someone who is present on both systems (console & PC).
and what about the old classics I mean would'nt it be interesting to see what people came up when Pacman is up as the chara of the month .

True, more PC featured characters would be something to think about, but noone seems really interested in PC character designs when it comes to fanart I mean, go to any fanart site and you'll be guaranteed to see characters from Capcom beat 'em ups or Squaresoft RPGs!

Personally I think PC game designers have been too wrapped up in cool looking 3D visuals, that they've totally left the chara design aspects of the game to the monkey boys. With a PC game they'll employ the 3D modeller to ALSO do the 2D work and designs, however in Japan for example they employ a character designer JUST to draw. I feel that's why chara designs from Capcom and such are so far superior. So who's gonna settle for a Guybrush Threepwood when they can have a Solid Snake
- Just trying to see if from a different perspective

But sure, apart from the FF7 month, I can't think of another PC featured game. Who do you think would be the ULTIMATE PC Character? I'm thinking perhaps Doom (Lead chara from the 'Doom' games)? Who would you really like to draw Giam?

For Pac-man: Best thing is ANYONE could draw him! Plus retro= cool!
Worst thing is: I could see a gallery of Pac-men being more boring than the museum of toe nail clippings >_<
unless...

lol, the Doom Space Mariner, doesn't sound too interesting imo, a guy in a green space suit XD You do have a point about pc games and their character designs.
Although... there are some really cool ones, like Alice from American McGee's Alice.

While not really being characters (no real personality) some of the skins in Quake 3 a good (my humble opinion). Like the lady with the head-dress and the Angel guy.

Also JC Denton (Deus Ex). Turned out to be a real hard cyborg. Hell yeah. Sorry, I LOVE that game.

well bomu, I have to admit that you have a good point there.
But I wouldn't blame the 3d designer that much.
It's more like that the major PC genre are not that much focused on a charakter (Realtime Strategie and Firstperson Schooter), while the console titel evolves more on it(like action adventure and beat'em up).

so I tried to think about some cool chara's and most that came to my mind are ether very old, or are hybrids ported from PC to console and vise versa.
But after talking with some friends I found out that what PC miss in a single Charakter, they have in a whole class.

so enough mad bubbling here are some good games/chara/classes I think.

the girl from ONI (forgot her name).
Duke nukem, the pig cop.
Commander Keen.
tanja and the security dog from c&c red alert.
kabuki warrior, geisha, necromancer from battle realms.
any race from master of orion.
jazz jackrabbit.
elexis sinclaire from sin.
someone from the jediknight saga.
one must fall 2097.
shodan from systemshock.
garet from tief.
and for a friend of mine some orks of warcraft 3

ok that is allready a way to long post so I quit for now.

one last thing about pac-man.
When anyone draw him as a plain yellow circle, than its boring.
But Imagine everyone tries, to bring him to the same quality level as the other(regular) entry's.
Ofcourse people must be more creative with the scene around him to make it shine.

I must admit, I don't know my PC games half as well as console games, but I'll add 'em all to the want list Actually there's been a few people that wanted Alice (from the PC game)- trouble with that being, Alice in essence isn't a 'game character', same as if ya asked for SpiderMan- he's a CB character firstly, the game being just a mechandise spin off. At Gameart.com they have a lot of PC artists - I'll check out what kinda stuff they're drawing there too. I'm just worred about not have the support and only geting one or two submissions.

Oh, and I thought of a good cross-platform chara: Razial from Soul Reaver.

yeh, but if you put up a kewl lookin' character, it doesn't really matter how popular they are, you'll get people who want to draw them... I think it's got more to do with the image than the game, really... tho feel free to disagree with me!
I mean, I've never played Space Channel 5, ever, in my whole life. I don't even own a Dreamcast... (it is on the Dreamcast, right? << see, that shows you how much I know... :/
But Max from MDK2... he's a four armed, four gunned cigar-smokin' robot-dog! seriously, I reeeaaaallly wanna draw Max... I think other people would too... MDK wasn't that popular or big, but it shoulda been. The second one was pure genius in a can...

Plus most people who visit sites like this must do it on a PC, right?

Yeah, I agree with Pixie Nim. If the character looks cool/interesting people will wanna draw them. Go on Bomu make a stand, be the first, lead the way!! (okay a bit overthetop)

Well I'm out numbered *Gives up*
Then again, this is for "Video Game" fanart, which generally refers to console games rather than computer games, which could mean both but generally refers to PC

Still, like Akatt said, it's time to take the first step and lead the way to victory! If ya'll think some PC charas thrown in here and there will work, let's go for it!

Ok, since it's a girly month this time around, I've gone with Giam's idea of Elexis Sinclair as May's chara of the month.

Should be interesting!

Ah Elexis Sinclair! Interesting choice

But I'm buggered if I can find much in the way of reference artwork for her...

And what was that about her being "the beautiful and sexy head of a global syndicate"? beautiful my arse - all the images i've seen have hardly convinced me of that - she looks like arnie in drag! don't expect my subby to be anything but good-looking...

Hehe, I agree Dan.. See it as a mission- to make her look feminine as well as sexy!!I'll see if I can't get some reference pics posted on this thread later on ^_^

Good luck with the GameCube launch at EB! I guess the good thing about working there, is that you're pretty much guaranteed your own console ^_^

Edit:- For elexis, we have: dhabih's fanart (few years old, but still v.cool)
a small head shot
Small full body shot
Full body shot 1
Head outta water
High res full body shot
full frontal!

okay, I certainly gotta agree, Elexis is hardly tasty meat, now is she? Not a patch on the cuteness of Ulala... I've got an idea, but... I'm not too sure about it... maybe I'll sort it out, maybe I won't... thing is, this month the most I can problee manage is a pencil-sketch (and my sketches are hardly anything to write home about...)

yup but remember Elexis is meant to be enhanced both by genetic's and surgeon's
and we all know while the media hypes this as sexy and beautiful its just artificial.

Well admittedly she does have some rather large bazookas, but they're quite obviously artificial and yes - artificial beauty doesn't do much for anyone. And she also has far too much slut-like makeup on... i'm thinking less "Genetic Scientific Genius" and more "Cheap £10-a-go Prossie" so I'm definately gonna have to work on the slut-like appearance and refine it into something better ...

what i want to see are some old school characters, like commando off the commadore64, or some atari games, sure the characters where much more simple looking, but that would leave it open for interpretations and some real creativity. . .

I have to say Oni is a boring game I think ppl only fuss cos its anime like.
whta about SNK characters I know a load of ppl who are fans of those characters.

Or what about a vote each time you pick about 4 characters you like and let the ppl decide guaranteed that they like that character then.

Retro's good. As long as lots of people are familiar with the character. I can imagine all but the hardcore game fanatics wondering who the hell SpellFire The Sorcerer is or what Rolling Ronnie did for a living!

- Oni we wont do. I already hosted a seperate Oni fanart event last year, which was cool, but I don't wanna be involved with another! But yeah, I'll have to see about creating some voting polls and see how they work out
