Ok. Go ahead and laugh, and ho ahead and call me crazy, nutty, stupid, intensly insane, or foolish. But My suggestion, is that for a month, that we bend the rules just a bit. I think it would be cool to see what artworks people come up with, using the characters from my animated comic, "Demon Heart" Now I know that it isn't a game, but someday, I know it will be. And I know you're thinking this guy needs to read the rules, it's for VIDEO GAME CHARACTERS ONLY, but to get technical, about 50% of the good anime out there has games for it, which WOULD include animes like Evangeliaon, Tenchi Muyo, or Dragonball Z. So I humbly reccomend drawing the characters from the Demon Heart comic, as possibly a slight and temporary bend to the rules, in exchange for a slew of creative and entertaining characters well-deserving of a game. I have pictures of all of them located in the Artworks section on my website. Let's see. You can find pictures of them HERE!!! So that's my suggestion. Hope I didn't take up too much of your time.

Phew, that's a bit harsh isn't it G?
On a separate note, does anyone think there's any scope for diversification in the MVGC to cover other things as well (eg anime/manga), or is it a safer bet to stick with Video Game characters only? Opinons please.

Who ever said I was vouching for more fans G.i.A.m.? I just thing the regular old Video game character idea, is a bit common. I mean, it's always "draw a vido game character, have a nice day." so I thought this would be an interesting way to spruce things up a bit. Heck, why not use characters from hellangel's Crimson star. You just misunderstand me G.i.A.m.

I have to admit GIAM, that was a bit harsh , but don't take that as an insult mate, just thought the comment was a bit close to the bone.

Why dont we all do random selections of each others charas, it is more homely and 'us' to do our own thing afterall, not just endless pics of industry steroetyped video game charas.

I agree with BIO, and since he's got the most developed charas, it's logical to start with him. Easy reference, backhistory and all that.

Exactly what I was thinking neo. exactly. Though, I didn't take offense to anything G.i.A.m. has said. I admit my idea was a little out there, but I didn't mean JUST do Demon Heart stuff, and then skip back to video games. I mean, we ALL have some AWESOME characters here, and we could all probably have a good time drawing them for each other.

erm, doesn't sound like what neo's suggesting is what you had in mind at all. seems like you just fancy a massive ego-boost and a huge handfull of fanart. I'm sorry to say, I kindof agree with G.i.A.m - even if he was slightly harsh in his wording.

not wanting to smack anyone down here, but if Bomu wants to change the style of the monthly comps, I guess he will. There are plenty of art sites which do character exchanges (in the way that neo suggests).

Neo - I think it's a cool idea, but mebbe we should draw each other's characters in the style of a character exchange - for example, we could set our own deadline, get someone responsible to dole out the character briefs (we all have to hand one in) so everyone gets one other character each - and then start a sticky thread in one of the art pages here to keep the progress in. basically, a character exchange. it doesn't have to be a comp, and it doesn't have to take the place of the monthly comp. here - we can set it up as a seperate (and not too serious) fun thing to do... fancy it?

@_@ Geez. I'll just remember to never make suggestions again. @_@

That is soooo not true, and I'm sorry if you feel that way. So sue me for not conveying my ideas in the right way. I re-read my first post though, and I probably should have re-worded it. Because it does kind of sound that way. But please understand pix, that I am a fair individual who likes to get involved. I try to inspire other artists by any means I can, but it only seems to come off as annoying. Please understand that I am HORRIBLE at presenting my intentions, as can plainly be seen from many of my posts here to date.

Well, let me apologize again to everyone if I sounded arrogant, I had no intention. Sounds like a great idea pixie. I'll let you set it up though, since you're probably better at communicating.

I guess I should apologize aswell,
I'm sorry if I sounded a bit harsh there it was meant as a friendly joking insult.

In my opinion tho the MVGC should stay the way it is.
As Pixie said there are allready other artcomps out there that cover casual anime/manga Fanart.
Also it seems that people who doesnt visit this board are still checking out the MVGC for what it is, and I dont think it would be fair to switch subject to something different suddenly.
But if Bomu wants to do a sister site for it, I would give him as much support as possible.

Ofcourse we can hold all kinds of contests on this board.
Tho I'm for something that doesnt take as much time as a full art contest submission. And it shouldnt be as reliant on single persons, like the first thing we tried on this board.

Yeah. but what this topic is about is that the MVGC isnt very 'us'. Drawin video game charas isnt for me because it's too strict. Look at Dans stuff, mine, Pixies. Each artist has a flavour and the video games sterotypical charas have a stale taste. Did that make sense ? . What im saying is, there should be something for regular members to enter, as well as the MVGC.

Nobody said anything about ditching the MVGC. This topic was just to explore the idea of something new.

Above all, let's make it FUN whatever it is.

As GIAM said, many people dont visit the board and just come for the MVGC. I just think that us regulars should have something like that contest for us on the board.

We could always theme it, 'mean machine' where we draw a random mecha, possibly to contest guidelines i.e. it has to contain chainsaw, minigun etc. Random chara design. Random landscape. Dramatic scene design.

I don't really know what we can do....but as I said before, let's make it fun...

the reason I recommended DH characters, is that Our site has a contest going on, and we've got a friend coming into town from California just to help judge the entries, so as I hope you could guess, we the people a Demon Heart are VERY serious about what we're doing. I just thought that perhaps a seperate contest could be held here, because there are so many cool people. Which IS why I suggested it for a MVGC contest. but seeing as how many people disagree with that notion, I withdraw the idea.

Neo, you strange fish... ;) may I suggest you do the setting up on this one? I'm not saying I won't help or participate, but I have about 2 weeks til interviews and I need to get my portfolio up to scratch for Bournemouth.... so not sure I have to time to run a comp. on the side (at least not to my satisfaction - I think I'd annoy myself by not having enough time to dedicate to it...)

but yeah. :)

OK, each person list down all the comic book projects/characters affiliated with yourselves. Let's see if we could have a rotation system of fanart competitions between ourselves for those projects/charas (just a suggestion, as of now - let's see how well this could work...).
OK, for myself:
Project Antichrist:
Angelo
Michelle
Shon

Project Antichrist - The Victorian Age:
Angelo
Michelle

There are more characters, but in the interests of fairness, I've only listed the ones you can find on the site and on OM.
OK, now it's the turn of the rest of you to put down what you've can offer.

Gack! Only Three characters? That's gonna be a tough desicion. Well, you have five names listed, but Demon heart has a lot more than that. I'll just list the MAJOR characters M'kay. (Note this is just a list of who's REALLY important to the story.)

Demon Heart:
Kaison
Koshiro
Mara
Krysta
Zodiac
Solaris
Jam

Pics of these guys can be found at www.demon-heart.com in the artworks section, under Demon Heart Artworks. There are also character descriptions in the chr section.

I totally missed out on this topic! So to sum things up:

The MVGC is probably gonna stay how it is for a while at least, especially since most of MVGC regulars don't tend to visit the OM forum- altho they're more than welcome!!

I'll always up for more suggestings tho! It doesn't hurt to ask, whatever they may be. I compile a list of wanted characters which include everyone's sugestions since it's not MY event, but rather it's for the game fan artists out there (I just happen to keep it running)

If anyone's thinking "what about anime characters too?" - Check out the "MAC": Monthly Anime Characters.. If it's still running that is!

And anyone wanting to feature their own characters (e.g Bio Chaos)- check out the "MAG": Monthly Anime Gaijin.

Also if anyone wants to set up their own competitions or drawing events on the board, be my guest! It's all good fun. Just remember to see it through to the end and make sure you've got enough interest before starting it since there's nothing more disapointing that a competition that flops after a week or so! The RPG character creation event we did was great fun, but even that seemed to lose interest after a while- which was a shame, but we got a few funny character designs out of it at least

As for myself I wont be running any more monthlies for a while. I'd love to, but don't think it's wise when I'm already sometimes struggling to keep the MVGC one online!

Hmm, have I left anything out?

just a thought. or this will take all year...

neo - a dirty weekend in bournemouth, eh? well, if it's sunny we could always go skinnydipping in the bloody freezing english channel... (i'm kidding... i'm kidding... )
