I have entered several competitions on various boards, and have observed most can be run without a separate website. It works fine as long as ppl obey simple rules. It could go something like this:Month 1: MVGC boss makes a thread in which they outline this months theme, and give the deadline and any other information or rules that might be required. eg Month1 theme: Prince of Persia Anyone with any questions can post in the thread and discuss etc etc Next the person in charge makes another thread called Month1 Entries and then writes a post in capital letters saying that no-one is to respond in this thread except to post a picture as their entry - all other post will be deleted. Finally a third thread can be posted: Month 1 contest results In this thread the judges (perhaps the moderators?) post a comment each about who they think is the winner, and any other observations they want to give. After this has been done, all the contestants can post comments saying hooray! I won, or You must be blind! or whatever it is they want, and from there we can progress to next months three threads. If everyone is disciplined and uses each thread for its defined purpose it should all go smoothly. I think it should be like this because: setting up a separte site is time consuming. Additionally it seems like more effort. If I am a newcomer to the forums, I might find the mvgc on bomus website, inb which case id think it was over. Alternatively I might find the MGVC section in the forums. which is currently, due to lack of discpline, half full of stuff with absolutley nothing to do with the mgvc. There is a very slim chance that I will find tri's post about the new site, and then click on the second link in the thread (or which ever link is the one that works I can't remember) and find out what it is all about. It seems easier, both for newcomers, and for ppl who already know what its about, to use the mgvc thread in the forums, which is currently used for pretty much nothing. I predict it will be much easier to attract a following again too. Here is a scenario that I think would get the competition popular again: Apply the system stated above, and then a few of us spend a serious burst of effort, and produce a few really hich quality pictures, and post them in popular forums, picking World of Warcraft as a theme - I know its extremely popular in all the art communities ive been involved in, and it has enormous scope for fanatasy heads, and I for one won't find it hard to rustle up a scantily clad sorceress or something. Then in the post on the other forums we mention its for a competition and encourage them to join in. I bet this will work, and the following we attract will hopefully follow to next month. A separate site is just too much effort for everyone involved. I would be happy to both run, and contribute a picture for month one to test my theory, but i think it would be most effective if a couple of other members could contribute one or 2 high quality images to drop in the other forums at the same time I do - i think the mvgc is really cool, and i think it would be worth a few of us spending 8 hours on our tablets if it would kickstart it again. (this message will selfdestruct after 10mins if and when the plan is implemented ) let me know what you think

An interesting proposal Jats- that's how the contests at Drawstick (where I submitted that Sosuke chara) were run. It's a good idea and I'd be happy to see it run this way, as long as I don't have to organize it I still have plans to re-open the MVGC on my site, but it'll involve an extensive revamp. Eventually, my plan is to allow users to add their entries in the same way users add art to sites like Devianart so that little maintenance is required. Winners would also receive prizes from sponsors, in return for advertising on the MVGC site. Doing it this way would be great and I can see a large game fanart community stemming from it providing it went according the plan. However, It'll involve loads of effort to get it started; asking 100s of individual to join, getting the event advertised on other sites, generating a decent amount of hits to gain interest from sponsors, as I'm not a programming geek- probably paying a few hundred bucks to get the site coded, domain and server space costs and taking time out of an already busy schedule! If I could think of a way to generate revenue from the idea, it'd make it worth considering tomorrow, but as it is, the MVGC is a small fan site made by game fans for game fans so that might be the way it will have to stay? Anyway, if I did follow through my idea, it wouldn't take effect for at least 6 to 12 months. So, in the mean time, I'd be happy to go for the forum based monthly idea! Since Tri is currently carrying the MVGC torch, you best wait to hear what he thinks.

I basically put this idea forward because i think it would be easier to attract new competitors by using a format thats simple and easy for them to recognise. I by no means want to hijack this from you tri, nor undermine your hardwork - I guess what I mean is I would only push for this new tactic to be implemented if everyone here was enthusiastic about it. However I think it will only work if a few of us drop something special simultaneously in other forums, and mention that its for a competition here and that will bring ppl in. I happen to know that many artists, particularly on pk are very into World of Warcraft at the moment, so I think it would attract a crowd if that was the main theme. I am very happy to spend some care over a picture to contribute, and although im sure some of our most talented members here may be busy with other things, the theme should allow them to cunningly pretend some previous artwork was for the competition eg silentdans excellent orc, and I bet bomu has some kind of fantasy character in stock. etc etc We could even just do this for 1 month and then implement tri's site after - my proposal would be to make a sticky in this section saying: the mvgc is a long running competition, but the site is undergoing an overhaul etc etc, so we're continuing in this format for a bit etc etc, until it has a formal site again etc, and then outline the rules and whatnot. Then we should delete this thread so no-one knows theyre being tricked lol. (although theyre not really being tricked cos if it works lots of ppl will join and so no-one will ever notice anyway, and bomus old mgvc site, which had lots of subscribers will support this idea.) Anyway, maybe im overdoing it with all this deviousness, but its just the solution I came up with when I considered the problem of not enough subcribers.
