I thought I fill the weekend void with something I work on for some time now It will be the Interface for our family portal Malech.net webspider
the shadow is temporary. The bg will be single colored as well, but dunno wich color and I think I'll replace the font as well plus I add some vent holes to the head and similar stuff.
any comments, critics, Ideas just post it (great slogan for the new postal Uniform shoes *g*).

Looks great GiAm! Spider Mech portal is a cool idea and the actual spider looks like is was done in 3D. I have an idea- have the text white and the blue BG glowing so it looks like a wrist watch light!
I think a white BG would look more proffessional, but still have a gray shadow cast underneath the spider- maybe make the shadow stronger by using less blur on the shadow rim.
Also I think it might look better if you could cover up the more angular join between the interface and the head- looks a little out of place.

tnx, man. uhm, white text can you give me an example couse I have problems of imagine that (personaly I wanted to have it like a luminated handy or MD display).
for the shadow I plan to have it a bit more complex than the circle shadow. So it will be more blured where it is further away and sharper where it meets with the legs.
I'll test the white Bg.
as for the the body-head connection, it was meant to look like its a bit over the head couse the body of a spider normaly connects whit a small stick like thing. Like a truck and a trailer does. But I try to give this part a more rounded end or something.

G.i.A.m. I've mocked up a little demo image to explain what I mean. I also added a little secondary light source around the edge of the spider. Sorry it looks messy, but I didn't have time to make it all look pretty I didn't even have time to do this, but oh well!
Well, there's a few things to consider, even if you don't end up using them:
the funny thing with the text is, when you said white glowing I had those tuts in mind showing how outer glow on text is made and only saw it whit black bg wich in my eyes would look a bit shity. But with the blue bg I realy like it, maby I combine it whit the dark text and let it glow when the mouse moves over it(are there realy wrist watches that glow like that they could replace my swatch netbeat).
and the second light source is realy cool, I would never have come up with it by myself. And it also solves with a little concern I had when I created it ( I could almost hear the crowd scream the light source isn't right in all places). Couse I focused more on getting all parts 3d look alike but the second light source evens the thing out somehow. Only thing is the color (no no it looks awsome), it looks like something is burning nearby and no one wants his 50000€ Cyber/deck/ware/stuff burned down, right? so I change it to a neon light source or something like that. ofcourse the Eyes are cool to and not so overdone like mine (so I mix them up).
so I better get PSP up I have a lot of work to do .

Getting there! The glowing text is definetly an improvement don'tcha think? I'm glad my moddifcations had some use at least ^_^
I've been lazy lately too... well, just uninspired, so I havn't done much art or design work- Still havn't got my moddified web page up for you to check out either! Instead I was working on a Stop and Start Java console for it, and although it works great in IE, it doesn't work for Netscape, so It looks like I'll have to get some help from someone with good Java programming knowledge to help my out. Giam, if you want to see if it works in Opera, go HERE

jup the glow is cool but my partners (read father) thinks its to hard to read so I guess I only let it glow by mouse over.
great now my own post is turned into one of those is it looking good in your browser rants aleast we are not flooding someone elses post.
so I checked it in the basic it works but its a bit bug'ed when i loaded the page nothing happend than I found the little ball (label it for people dont know the page without it) I hit it and music was playing (btw. nice loop reminds me a bit of the c64 glory) I hit it again and it stop'ed now I pushed it again and nothing happend. so I closed the window and opend it again and I pushed the button but nothing happend I could punish the poor little button as much as I want but no sound. maybe the command was cached so I closed Opera and started again and after hiting the button again I heard sound but couldn't stop it. but dont ask me whats wrong I'm not a coder.
btw. You could test it way easier when you download Opera Opera Homepage
if you are unsure here is a nice browser feature face off here is the Link.

Yes, appologies for going off topic in your thread Giam- I have a bad of this >_<
Well you definetly seem to be having problems. Since it's only 4.5MB, I'll have to get around to installing opera myself sometime.. and Netscape --
Anyway, having a rollover text image for the portal sounds like a good idead.. maybe even have the spider's eyes glow also- just for fun and too add a little more interactivity to it

hey tnx you can bet I say something when the page goes up.
the editor question has resolved also I actually asked couse the one I'm testing right now thought it would be funny to produce weird javascripts and formating but after making clear today who its god is and getting rude to the html code itself it now works perfect (as perfect as a windows program can run ).
