You need to clean up your lineart before you colour it a little better. Those "furry" white edges around the lineart can be removed pretty easily by using channels to create a selection and then filling it with black. Bomu has a more detailed walkthrough in his techniques section here.

hmm well the only thing more complex then the use of the paint bucket on that image is the shadow on the face. i think you need to work on your shading/highlighting skills, but on an image like this it might be prettty hard. try something more complex also.
