this is my first attempt at cyber-punk (I think thats what it's called) am I at least on the right track?

hm cyberpunk is a genre which basicly revolves about multinational firms and how they could be so powerfull that they controll the politics.
With this often comes a high boost of technologie (the cons produce everything that will bring profit no matter if there are ethik bounds).

In my opinion we allready live in a cyberpunk like world (what the industry is doing in the digital rights stuff is a good example).
Maybe the technologie doesnt look like it. But what scientist do right now is a step into it.

ok enough,
I would say that your chara could be definitiv from a cyberpunk world.
For critics, I think that his head is offcenter.
It should sit more toward the left (viewers site).

His mechanical leg has a odd perspective it bends to the viewer, while the rest of his leg is stright to the ground.

Well the board is maybe a bit slow,
But you can consider everyone that post around once a week a regular (most post once a day I think).
However there is not much traffic on the weekends.

not sure i agree with GiAm (sorry G

). Like GiAm said cyberpunk world usually revolve around giant corporations usuing behind the scenes politics to further their goals. Usually, i associate cyberpunk with large very very advanced cities and so forth.

The mechanisms on your character certainly make it seem 'cyber' but the fact that he is wearing nothing but some shredded trousers makes him seem more from the 'post-apocalyptic' genre where the 'old-world' tech is more powerful than the 'new-world' cos opf some catastrophe/war that has caused the destruction of technology and civilization.

Anyway i reckon you shouldn't necessarily try and 'fit ' into a genre but just draw as you like and then see if it will fit into a genre. I mean you could always do the post-apocalyptic/cyberpunk thing (eg a massive technologically advanced city amidst the detruction thing).

i hope i make sense.

I always thought the word CyberPunk was a description of the era and its technologies like NecroPunk for the undead with outdated tech in a apocalyptic setting, SteamPunk in a 17th style world with massess of Steam powered Tech and CyberPunk... with uh... Cybernetics with humans in a modern/future world? X3

Not even sure what I'm talking about, I'm probably wrong in the description of CB :3

There is a good amount of detail there~ which looks cool :3 but what I reckon is that you should make the mechanical parts actually part of him :3 because at the moment it looks like a suit thats on him.

thanks for the critique guys, I can see that my video-game/TV image of Cyberpunk, is slighty off of the norm, I had this concestion that CP WAS post apocolyptic, ya know?, guys all torn up from the big war, replacing parts of themselves, but since the technology had not been perfected yet there was a lot of wires and cables, not smooth like an advanced cyborg. and ya I should have mentioned that I knew the Legs were off bbut I wasnt too concerned with the legs, I just wanted to get a feel for the cyborg type drawing.

I looked at alot of your drawings. One thing you got down is perspectives and depth, moreso than most people that is, and lots of detail too. It takes alot of people years to develope that.

Alot of your drawings have stubby fore-arms and calves, maybe it's to go with the style though so not so much a real flaw?

well I think the stubby forearms and calves are a character trait that I am ttrying to conciously rectify, I alwasy look at it and think it looks just right, wheras other people look at it and say his arms ar a bit to short and so are his legs, I can only see this after someone points it out to me, and then I get ticked because I have been doing that for such a long time it is hard to correct it, iit just feels natraul to draw the way I draw, but im trying to fix it so that my characters look more anotomicly correct.

On the note of CyberPunk, Iwas trying to think of a sentence that sums it up, but couldn't. Like Giam said, all cyberpunk stories I can think of involve hight power organisations.. But can't think of a cyberpunk that doesn't include human cybernetics either. I suppose it's a whole combo of things which create a cyberpunk world - like set in the future, will include cyborgs and robots, violence and the streets are never clean etc

I'm thinking of Cyber City, AD Police, Angel Cop, Alita, 8-man after, Ghost in the Shell, Blade Runner, Robo Cop, Judge Dredd.. can anyone else add to the list?

yeah mostly, thought I think I read one or two without cyborgs.
But my guess is that the word cyberpunk came from cyberspace (the succsesor of the internet. As a bodyless way of living and comunication i.e. godlike being, made possibly trough the creativity of mankind) and punk as in street punks, gangs which are normaly the rulers of the street and the slums.

One reason why I think it is like this is, because neuromancer(which pretty much started cyberpunk in the first place) revolves much more around cyberspace than robots/cyborgs (I know to connect to the cyberspace you need to plug a cable to your brain).

Oh and one movie that comes to mind without cyborgs, that I clearly see as a cyberpunk movie is "Strange Days".
Got everything in it what is needed, atleast in my eyes.

Other good cyberpunk stuff:
Appleseed(manga), Neuromancer(book), Snowcrash(book), Synners(book), Shadowrun(p&p rpg), Nirvana(movie), Bubblegum Crisis(anime) there is definitiv more.
I cant remember right now tho, but this is top stuff go out read/watch/play it .
