I'm creating a video game concept for a scholarship. I have to make maps, characters, storylines, etc. I'm just now starting on the characters, here is one that I've just finished.

Wow, the coloring is very good and so is the detail. It seems that he needs a wider chest so that it can give him that more heroic look to match his face. Great job on the clothes! He reminds me of Prince Adam from He-Man.

I have my own video game/tv anime series
storyline thats called Legend of Deraki, about a warrior elf named Ganon. Anyway if you need help with names, weapons, or some kind of character I'd be glad to lend a hand. You can ask me or go on the internet and type in name generators to find those cool medieval or barbaric names.
- I hope you get that scholarship.

nice/ the muscle accuracy's good.

just wanted to point out - his head and shoulders seem in good proportion to one another, but the rest of his body's a bit tiny in comparison... too short, also his chest/waist and hips are all too narrow. this is only if you're going on the shoulders as a general size guide, o'course. they are MASSIVE!

hope this helps, dude.

yeah, I screwed up alot.... I meant for the drawing to be a lot bigger.... I started from the top and the further I went down the thinner and shorter I made him, so it did make things disproportional.

yeah you and me both mate

everyone's already made all the useful comments and crits so i haven't much to add. the colours work well together but i think his left arm looks a bit dodge. it looks like it's been turned to much and therefore looks broken. because the guy is very nearly front on i think the arm shouldn't be so sideways drawn. it looks like he's tried to twist the arm back past is body.

hope that helps dude.

don't worry about all the disproportional thingies. I'm very drunk, so I'm gonna be blunt. (yay!)

you just wanna be less obsessive (is that the right word?) about the drawing. think less about it! concentrate less on one part and more about the whole thing as a silluoette (if you like) and it'll come togther as a whole MORE. this'll happen with practice, no doubt. you have talent, but frankly (I am very pisseD) talent is nothing without hard work. it pisses me off when people say "fuck me! you're talented!" cos it ain't true. I've put a fuck load of hard work in. work hard, practice lots (all the time) and you'll be genius. I promise you (man, you can tell how pissed I am!!!!!!) you have the determination and interest (and skill also,) to do great things. stick with it.

sorry for being pissed, dude.

I like it, looks like a fine swordsman.

Hmm.. did you intend that hand to be reaching to grab that or where you going for a taunt look?

I have no clue on your scholarship requirements. But, for a suggestion try making some abstract monsters/characters fantasy stuff don't be so limited and plain minded in your thought. If you can design cool monsters/items/cloths/etc that have their own personality this will show you have good creativity and imagination. THIS IS PRACTICALLY what game design is all about? But, you can certainty make some reality stuff as well

As for map making Give it your best! I love doing maps.. takes good hard hours if you want to try making something admirable. I don't know of your experience but if you're a complete newbie suggest you stick to the game given editors till get familiar with basic ideas. I haven't got around to making a map recently these past months

Back to your drawing character --

I think what is really wrong that would easily solve this character's normality would to correct his arms. Aye, right where his arm shoulder connects into his chest. I believe you have his arms sticking out off of him would of been nice if you made them more snug. For the twisted arm.. well I don't think it's twisted. I think you may of lost track of the arm limb perspective. If you look at his elbow to his upper arm bicep you can see his elbow is torn/displaced from his arm. If you moved the elbow over and redrew it should look all right. Also I think the bicep in the right arm doesn't go in correctly to that shirt fold above. (Try not to squish, shrink, or fit stuff into the cloths)
Let the cloths bend to the body as it suits.

Here is probably a vital hint and I do this myself to get a feel for perspective. Try to see how your body would bend/flex in the perspective your drawing.
Just look at how your joints are and such is all I'm saying.

Hmm.. I'm not sure if the waist is too small Pixie. Just the fact his arms weren’t placed right. Fighters tend to have a slim waist and for a swordfighter it suits him to my view.

But, I will agree with you on the legs Pix.
His upper thighs should be more muscular to suit up for his arm size.

I feel the same way I think Pixie towards your thought on hard work. To excel in drawing it's all about dedication and devotion. You can draw as much as you want.. but if you don't got the will to surpass what you've done in the past you'll never get to where you want!

Whoa!! Sorry, for the long post but I hope you guys read it well at least StuckMojo.

Good luck to you on your gaming career portfolio/scholarship StuckMojo.

"Ok Ok Guys nothing to see here"
"Its just a Pixie at the edge of throwing up"

moves slowly to pixie nim and conducts her gently but with force toward the door

"come over here there is a nice warm bed, and tommorow the world will look alot nicer (or you will be too sick to realize how bad the world really is)"

While I mainly agree with Pixies statment,
I have a hard time to see why it was made (except that drunk hardly make sense anyways).
OK good night all.

Well, I really appreciate your guys's help... But I just talked to the admissions director and he says it cant be violent, so I doubt I can have a swordsmen involved in a game....which pretty much rules out rpg's with fighting... So I thought of a new idea: an RPG/Sports game..
Think about it. It would be a RPG that is about a sport and you would fallow this storyline.

Me neither, I hate sports games.. I'm talking about creating a new sport and puting it into a Role Playing format.. Like Blitzball for FFX.

Well the fights could also be training fights, with bokken (wooden sword). Travelling from fighting school to fighting school, learning new technics and proving who is the best(its a very common theme I think).
