this is a character i am working on for graphics so i'm wondering what you guys think of him....recommend any changes? ...i'd like to hear them...i think the sword is a little cliched...i didn't want to give him a big ass gun coz i wanted to give him a sort of hand combat fighting style..
oh yeah...does he resemble any characters that you know of because i want to make the guy look at least semi original...i think the colour scheme is a little like sub zero...and um...i have been a little confused lately whether to go cel or just normal style...i decided on normal this time...i think i pulled it off quite well.. *gasp*

Hey nice pic Random_Task. Easpecially love the drawing.
Just a thought- I reckon it could looks even better if you made his outfit more contrasty. It could make the glow from the sword stand out more.

thanks guys...i am still throwing around ideas for his clothes...i'm considering giving him a sneaking suit sort of like raidens in mgs2 and a similar darkish colour scheme

I was thinking the same think about the Sub-zero influence! He's looking pretty cool overall and I like his right arm
Last time I was doing some serious character designing, I wrote down a lot of different variables to help distinguish characters. "tattoos" being one of them. Maybe some tattoos on his forehead, since it's a little plain up there, if not, how about some head gear like a sweatband or visor? What about thinking of costume features? Like pockets or compartments on his uniform to hold weapons and items?.. Hehe, I'm thinking like an RPG designer now! Or just generally check out some existing samurai outfits for ideas. One thing with this current costume is, it looks cool but also very rigid. That's OK if you stand there and blast away with an AK47, but since this guy's a sword master, he'll need flexibility and ability to move. Ya just gotta take little things like that into consideration.

thanks bomu...i was considering giving him some sort of headset\headphones sort of things(the ones that wrap around the ears)...um scars always look cool as well i think i may move away from this ninja, samurai theme but i'm not sure at the moment..you could say its in its early stages...i'll definitely post up the finished guy for you all to see in the not too distant future
oh yeah...i have been working on a cel look and i am almost leaning towards that instead of the regular gradient sort of colouring...its a front profile of my character's face which i must say looks pretty cool imho http://liquid2k.com/random_task/random_two.jpg

I'd like to see how the whole pic looks cell shaded cos the face looks great. One thing tho (and maybe it's just me ) there's something about the shading on the left side of the mouth that's bothering me , I'm not sure what. Other than that great.
Can't help you much on whether to go cell or gradient cos I'm a Gradient Guy thru and thru.
Also I agree with Bomu in that he could look cooler if he had a tatoo or scar on his face. But again that could jus' be me.

Wow that is some fancy cel shading! - just try not to make the shading too fancy. The way you've shaded the nose makes it look crooked.
