Hey, I just finished this today for Chikin kindamanga.com, you may or may not know him, but he utterly rocks in every way. Anyways, last weekend he kept saying "Gum! We loves Gum!" and pointing at the teevee. Not cause he's mad, cause he likes Jet Set Radio. XD So I did a lil fan art for him yesterday and finished the colouring today. =)

so yeah! It's kinda finished already, but I thought I might show you guys. Whaddaya rekkon? I know there are some really massive and obvious flaws with it. >_<

sorry, it's at freeservers (damn them!) so you might have to drag and drop/cut and paste. =)

Good work, Chikin will be happy! Only crit I can think of is that the edges of the cel shading sometimes look kinda shaky or too angular (which reminds me of the polygon tool XP)

nice cel-shading. Looks really professional, yet the polygon-thing looks kinda... unorthodox. One thing, the spray can looks slightly weird. But aside from that, great pic, and great cel-shading.

hey, thanks for the replies, guys! XD

in answer to those crits...
Bugsy! Yeah, I admit the cell shading is shaky round the edges in places. XD I coloured it all in about 5 hours today, and that included fixing the line art after scanning, which took at least 2 hours on its own. XD I'm so useless.
But I'm working with a mouse, so... that's the reason for the shaky. =) And I didn't use the polygonal lasso tool at all... I experimented a bit with it for the background (post colouring) and decided I hated it and it was evil. XD I just made a great big fuckoff custom airbrush with hard edges and did a lot of swipey. XD

Angelo! I did the spiky edged shadows because I had a couple of reference pictures (mainly for colours and stuff). Jet Set Radio is all cell shaded (in the game) and has all these hard edged shadows. All the characters are kinda angular, so I thought I'd have a bit of that influence.
how d'ya think the spray can looks weird, exactly? the shape was also partially nicked from reference pictures (I have this great book, 1000 greatest game characters, it has MASSES of great illustrations in!) so I kinda stand by it's angularness. XD

yeah, so! anymore for anymore? XD

In answer to ur question Pix, I said that it looked weird bcos, being cylindrical, the edge would be more straight, and the bottom more circular. But, I think i get what u mean about the stylisitic thing going on, so ignore that comment if u want.
I think I kno the book ur talkin about, saw it in Waterstone's one time, but never bought it.
Did the guy you gave it to like it?

thanx Cronus! *flattered* I'm rather chuffed, meself. Think this is one of my better works.

actually, did the whole 24 hour comic thingy on sunday/monday... XD that was mad. but I think it helped no end with my drawing. more angular style is definately my thing, expect to be seeing much more of that i the near future.

Angelo - yeah, he loved it! (yay!) I was very flattered. =) He made me the best 21st birthday card, too! I'll link to it asap... it seriously rocks! it's the best birthday card I EVER got, bar none! XD it's SO GLORIOUS!
