Here's the idea. We're to create a team of characters for a RPG type story. The theme of the story will be based on the character designs. We're all going to work together on each character.
- But Bomu - that's crazy! How could it work?
We don't work literally at the same time. Person A Will start off by drawing the head. Person B Will then draw the body. Person C will draw the arms. Person D will draw the legs/feet. Then Person E Will draw the character's weapon and Person F will draw the character' special item/acessory. * See below.
Now to get things in proportion I propose Person A Posts his contribution first, then Person B Prints it off, and adds his/her contribution below, after that, it's scanned, posted. Now Person B prints off the next version and adds to it etc. etc. until the whole drawing is complete!

SO, what we need is:

  • People that will be willing to take part
  • People that will take no longer than 3 days on their part of each character.
  • People that can come up with cool ideas, which is what it's all about
  • People who can work as a team. I don't want anyone saying, "Hey Bomu you messed up the character, you suck!" etc.
  • People that can ink their work, since we need a continuity and a good solid medium to use though-out.
  • People that will put effort into this. You don't have to be a pro artist, as long as you try hard, get things in proportion and have fun
  • People that know how to scan in their work at a high res and clean it up * See OM tips section for advice

The amount of characters in the team depends on how many people wanna take part and how much work each OM member wants to be responcible for. Maybe we could have several characters on the go at the same time?
Anyone who wants in, just add your name on this thread within the week, then next week, we'll get started. Anyone who wants to join after next week, let me know and I'll try to fit you in ^_^

Any questions, just ask

THIS IS YOUR BEST WORK YET! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT UP IN THE ORIGINAL ART WORK SECTION!

Just kiddin hehe, sounds fun. Count me in I don't care what I draw though, if it's a female you'd better let me draw the weapon or accessory though, or it will end up looking pretty scary

Tuigi you wont have to worry I don't think, given each person gets 3 days to draw a peice you would only have to be the fourth or fifth person to draw somthing, unless you wanted to draw the head or torso or whatever then we'd need to wait

Do shoulders or shoulder pads count as body or arms?

Anyway, I'd like to enter, but I do have a problem. My printer is terrible; if I'd print it out and rescan it, it'd look horrible. I figure I could edit the original part back on it tho.

G.i.A.m - great! It'll be easy once we get going.

tuigi - No problem, it's not starting for another week anyway. This week's just to recruit participants.

Keith - Thanks, I'm sure it'll go down well at my next job interview as my star portfolio piece!

sinmaster7 - Great. Never seen anyone try something like this before, but should be fun!

Shirai - heh, ok. If we do more characters, you maybe you could do something like a B, C and E (one for each?). We'll see

the metalman - Yeah it's something like that At the end of the day it's mainly just for fun at to keep us entertained, but I know we'll all gain more from it too.

Bugsy - Umm, I'd say shoulders would be best as the body, but maybe it could be changed for arms, depending if clothing or armor extends to the shoulders or not?
Don't worry about the printer thing - I realise after the same image has been printed and scanned several times that it will loose quality, so as ya say, an edit can be made at the end

I don't want in on this, I'm just curious...

...Won't that end up looking really weird, having one character made up of 3-6 different drawing styles?
Or is that kind of the point of the whole thing? To see what kind of weird deranged looking kind of characters we can whip up?

Dragonfly - Great, the more the merrier

Random_Task - Nice one, this is gonna be interesting!

GreenMan - Yeah, I imagine it will look wierd being a hotch potch of styles in one pic, but that'll be half the fun. I don't expect people to put the final results into their portfolios (unless they want to )

the metalman - ^See above. That's cool Mayebe if we have another one of these drawing things, you could be team leader? ..Or not

Yeah I wouldn't mind coloring somthing myself. Kinda tricky though with sleeves/shirt? Maybe we could make an agreement that the body would be drawn with some sort of sleevless coat/vest, so that the person drawing the arms would have complete freedom? I would think that the arms would be about the hardest to draw with the smallest amount of reward as far as creativity goes.

Welp im ready to start picking places as soon as we start. I don't care what i do though or if I start on the next one we do although i'de like to get on right away.

as for arms, i'm always up for them....i'd probably go wild with some sort of big ass metal cybernetic thing...hehe

Aww sounds real cool its just I'd find it hard to add onto the existing character freehand on a computer art program but I've had experience with Oekaki so I guess I could do it if only I were a decent artist though. The guys on RGA forums are doin somethin a lil like this only instead they're addin onto a RPG story not a character as for my art stuff this is my RPG original story called Crimson Star most characters are in the artwork section
hmm just noticed the shape behind the nika front cover image looks like the UK
Crimson Star Saga
Still sounds like a cool idea I love inventin original characters.

Hmm as far as I understood Bomu it goes like this.

1.Team makes some brainstorming about character.

2. Person A starts drawing his part on paper.
He ink his part, scans it and touch it up on the computer, so that he has a nice black line.
When he is finished he post a highquality(300dpi) and a resized version (so everyone can see what he made so far) on the work in progress section.

3. Person B downloads the HQ version and prints it out.
He draws his own part on the print out, he also ink it and scans it in.
If his printer sucks, he can add the hq download and atach his new part to it.
Then he makes a resized verion of it and post both back into the forum.

4. Repeat step3 till the whole character is drawn

5. Everyone can make a color version of the finished lineart.

Random_Task, Cool, ya on the team
As far as colour goes, we'll wait and see afterwards. It's just gonna be line art for now, since some of us might not be able to gain access to some CG software and if Person A decides to 'cel style CG' their head, person B might not know how to cel-style CG, then we could have problems.
I propose we wit 'till the character is designed and completed, then if anyone wnts to try colouring the lot thier own way, they can. What do you think?

Keith, Since the arms may well be the most difficult and boring, let's try to think of ways to make them un-boring! Fancy wrist gaurds, guns on the end of each finger, magical energy pulsing from the palms, deformed mutant baby heads oozing from open wounds?! But try to keep things in the same theme as the rest of the pic. I think we'll play it by ear as far as shoulders and other joins go. I'm sure it'll go fine.

Random_Task- Great idea about the teams thing. Maybe few characters per team? Then we'll have a big RPG battle royal at the end of it with our characters ...or not

Hellangel, Doesn't have to be freehand on a computer. We're each gonna print out the 'character so far' pic, add to it, upload it, then the next person will take over- Basically what Giam said just above. ?But if you can do good job with a tablet or computer or whatever, then go for it! So, do ya fncy giving it go?

G.i.A.m.- Ya got it in one, Even down to the "highquality(300dpi) and a resized version" bit sounds good

I have an idea. Some people don't seem to like the idea of working on the same character, they want their's to stand alone.

After this you should have a thingie where everyone can design their own characters, then draw them, post them, etc, and then someone can put all the characters into one big pic!

So we'd all be contributing one member of a team....or something. Just a thought.

This things gonna be cool though, I'd luv to do it but my STUPID #%&*#* scanners on the fritz!!!!!!!

KDM, Great! Ok, we'll commence later this week.
Out of curiosity, does anyone NOT have access to the internet over the weekend?

Jackel, cool idea. Let's hope you can get your scanner sorted for that next one then, eh?

tuigi, I'll be sure to summarize anything important in the previous posts in the 'starter' thead, when the drawing will commence

Hellangel, good to have you on board Scanning shouldn't be problem, as long as you can get it scanned within three days. I imagine most body parts weont take more than few hours, but everyone can have the 3 days, just incase something comes up inbetween or whatnot.
