can someone tell me how those *(&- stick figures work how is it supose to help me and how am i supose to flesh it out

i have been drawing for 3 hours now and nothin good comes up ,my basket is full of crappy drawing,tell me what i must do whit those figures since it seems to help a lot of people

and do you think i need a tutor?

It's supposed to help you get proportions right, not nessecarily body shapes and such. If I don't draw a stick figure my legs may be way too long, too short, ex...

Maybe your just trying to hard and too fast. Take a break and slow it down! If you fill your waste basket up that fast your drawing too fast!

Maybe scan somthing and we can try and help to see where your going wrong who knows. THe more you draw the smarter you get, the better understanding of shapes you aquire, and your motor skills improve. Just settle down and it'll come to you!

Stick figures are used for poses and getting proportions right. Check out: http://www.polykarbon.com/tutorials/characters/chara1.htm http://www.polykarbon.com/tutorials/body/stick.htm http://www.polykarbon.com/tutorials/body/male/stick.htm
For good examples of using sticks to your advantage. I'd recommend printing out these tutorials, then completing them like a school work style excercise.

I *should* work with stick figures. My problem is that I work both too messy and skip too many steps X3

I know what you mean.
While stick figures helped me a little bit in the beginning, I had serious problems getting proportions right.

This frustration had its climax while i was making the mdavatar.
I used a stickfigure and redrawed it again and again, but I just couldn't get it right.

So I opend this How to Draw Manga magazin, to look at the measures table again and stumbled across the way how fred perry draws his figure.
Ofcourse I had seen the pages before, but allways thought it was to complicated/wierd.

Well that night, I was extremly frustrated so I gave it a shoot.
And the result was fairly good.Than I made the avatar (you all know the result) while this method doesn't made me perfect it helped me alot.

oh you ask how it goes.
well I scan a pic later I got an scsi scanner I have to reboot to scan.

i dont feel like erasing the inbetweens..and extra lines...

Didn't you guys start off with stick figures though? I'de think it would take some practice before you could do drawings without em. You can always trace after too neway.

my spirit got up a little bit i was able to draw somethin good after all this time,i can t post it cause it s in my scethbook and i can t rip the pages (believ eit or not this is how my scanner works whit single pages)
so i can t show you but teh next time i post somethin you will see the difference cause i found an artist that i liked and used some of his work as examples,i did nt copy his work just used some refferences .

I still use stickfigures to get the pose right 'couse they are quicker to draw.

ok the comercials are over so I go back to watch Aika .

I find stick figures useless. It seems to make everything look disjointed. I just draw the pic straight away without stick figures. Its usually guesswork for proportioning but it works best for me.Understanding anatomy helps ur intuition as to what can go where without ur hero lookin like hes been in a car crash. And if ur still having problems, pick a subject that ignores normal proportion like pokemon digimon or medabots. You can make the proportions as wacky as u like cos theyre not human.

i've never used stick figures. I just can't get the hang of them. I kinda do what GiAm did above.
