Our characters need a partner!

It's drawing time once again for the RPG Chara design event, where by us OM forum members are all contributing to spontaneous single character design illustrations!

Keep an eye on this post of this thread in particular- It will tell you who's in your team, what you'll need to create for the character and when you need to start and finish your contribution. Would everyone taking part remember the requirements mentioned in the initial thread. All questions and character contributions are to be posted in this thread, unless you want it critiqued before submission, in which case use the Art in Progress forum.

You have 3 days to print off the previous contribution, add your own part (see below to know what you'll be doing), ink it, scan it in at preferably 300 dpi, post a smaller version on the board and a link to the 300 dpi version so the next person can take over and use it to print from. Obviously if an image has been scanned, printed, then scanned again it will lose quality. Before submitting, if you could edit the previous entry back onto yours (if there's any quality loss) that'd be great. If you need help, ask and I'll lend a hand You can submit before the full 3 days.

New Rule!! To speed up the process, if anyone runs past their due date for whatever reason other members of your team can take on your role to finish your part- first person in that team to bid-post on the uncompleted part wins and gets an extra few days to complete a second chara part for thier team.
Similarly, Since there are less team members (KDM disapearing, Hellangel's on holidays), if there's a *Free part* which needs filling, first person to post a message stating they're willing to take on another roll will be assigned the new chara part to complete within the 3 days. If anyone wants to nominate themselves for an extra part NOW, go ahead and I'll pencil you in. cheers

As you know, we've divided into 2 teams. Each team will design 3 characters between them. This it the 2nd character. Teams and character 'parts' have been picked at random. Hope everyone's happy with these

Team 1:

.Bomu. .sinmaster7. .G.i.A.m. .Shirai. .Bugsy. (tugi on hold)

Team 2:

well if no one else wants to join team 1 or really wanna do the legs I would do them too.

Oh and a little suggestion to keep the lineart quality up.
We should only use loosless compression formats like .gif, .png, .tif.
We work with BW Greyscale anyways no need to have the lines destroyed by jpg.

Giam, you got it- First come, first serve! I don't think the quality suffers too much if the JPEG is only on low compression for the high res version, but sure I'll save as gif.

Akatt- Welcome to team 2!

Well the problem with jpg is that it works best with gradients.
Lineart shows very soon the compression.

Take the last pic from team 1 and zoom in and you will notice randomly gray pixels, ok that can be easly cleaned up with the contrast filters.

But the real nastyness of it is, that everytime someone opens this in a graphik suite and saves it again in jpg the compression factor adds to the existing (if a file gets saved five times with 10% compression the file will look like/worse a file that has been saved with 50%).

And I tested it with the last version of team 0ne and it takes in the lowest compression a little bit over 1MB.
The same file saved as a png greyscale takes nearly 600kb.

cool he

clickety click for largeness!

i was going for the tribal tattoos look on this dude...hmmm, i don't know if the inking is thick enough as the pic was large so Bomu, if you think it isn't i can re-ink it.
apart from that i am reasonably happy with it

I kinda want to give up my spot. Weapons are easy to draw, but its such a hassle to get it into the picture and all and clean up the lines, then upload it (which is pissing me off right now I can't even upload my video game loser pic). And I gotta buy some new art tools. My pencils suck, my sketch books are full (although im glad cause I had bought shitty sketch books), busy with work blah blah blah.

I'll draw the weapon when My turn comes up as best i can, but if anyone wants to take over (specially anyone whose not on the list and wants to get on) I'de love to give up my spot! Just though I'de let everyone know in advance.

slumdog - avoid deformed abstract or chibi styles at all cost! >_<

AKATT, for the accessory/special item, it should be seperate, unless it's nessasary to draw it into the character.

Shirai- Looks good remids me a little of that Street fighter 3 character, Alex is it? Is it a girl? *lol

Keith , I've penciled you out, let us know if you get yourself sorted. go to liquid2k.com for image hosting, or mail me your pics and I'll upload them imn my space

No need to worry Bomu the chibi thing was just a joke.

Sorry I'm a bit late with this but I just kept drawing
a blank when I put pencil to paper. Anyway I got
through my artists block and this is the result:

I wanted to keep him in context with the first character
so I employed the lightning motif again and went for
modern styling on the jacket.

Over to you Dragonfly, here's the 300dpi copy.

Hey guys, I don't have a scanner at the moment since mine died the other day. I'm going to try and buy one later today though hopefully.

Edit: I got myself a new scanner, so now I'm back in business!

Uhm what can I say.
When I realized that I had both the torso and the legs, I thought I use the opportunity to make something from torso to leg (but a dress is definitv funnier on a badass guy/monster).

Also seemed easier to do it that way.

oh and great work with the arms Bugsy without them it looked totaly unbalanced but now I like it.
