I think it would be cool if everyone else would try this. If your curious, I was trying to give my self an "unfair" advantage in doing a self portrait. Just wasn't coming. I wanted to finish it and do it in semi realism anime style. Sadly I failed miserable.

So yeah, scan a photo of yourself, trace the outline of your face, hair, eyes, ears, trace one side of your nose, and trace your mouth just by the bottom and top lips (not inbetween). Just like an anime character kinda. It will look nothing like you but its still fun! Mine looks nothing like me lol.

What I mean is you basically scan a pic of your face, and trace your features, but only trace the parts that would appear on say an anime face. That means trace the hairline, the eyes, the eybrows, the basic face shape, the ears with some degree of detail.
When you get to the nose just trace one side of it (as with most anime faces) and with the lips only trace the top of the upper lip and then abit of the bottom lip.

If leaves you with a basic template, which won't really resemble yourself (because humans tend to look for anomonolies rather than generic features), but you can then draw a character that is based off yourself. Using the same shapes, just different scaling, like eyes bigger, nose smaller, ex...
