Does anyone know where I can get Photoshop 6? All I have is Photoshop 5 and Photoshop Elements 2. And they're both not that great.

And to reply to your question somewhat, Photoshop 5 isn't all that bad if you're starting out with CG. The brushes in 6 are quite different tho, and definately less easy.
Try to get Photoshop CS, it's the latest version, and my fav so far. If only I knew where to get it, try and ask some friends lol.

you wanna know where to get it. . .
that depends do mean as in free off the internet or pay 900$ canadian from the store.

for internet I would suggest kazaa k++ or origanal.

for buying it i would suggest future shop or staples they have the best deal on software i find thoughe london drugs as some good deals to.

I called all the computer stores in town, and I couldn't find Photoshop 6. I didn't use Kazaa cause I don't download exe or zip file from P2P networks (I got a really bad virus once). But I did find a good deal on photoshop 8. Is it good for CGing?

One more thing. Is it best to CG drawings made with only pencil, or drawings that are inked in?

wellll wen i had photoshop i cg'd pencil'd drawings but the lines dont look anywhere near as good as inked i think

Photoshop 8 is the one usually called CS (surprised they even called it 8 o_o). It goes for about $650

Just be sure you don't get Photoshop Elements, which costs $99, but sucks.

Inked pictures are usually cleaner to cg than pencils. Unless you can get your pencil lines very sharp en clean. Bomu manages, but I dunno how, lol.

He's a bit of a bastard for that, really. I usually ink everything I do, but nothing really comes close to a finely pencilled drawing ready for colouring!

hehe. Well, I'd reccommend using whatever suits you and what you're used to when it comes to CGing. If you do the pencil line CGs like I do, it saves time by-passing the inking proesses, but then I end up spending hours cleaning up the pencil lines with photoshop! I also make use of a light box- by tracing my sketchy images, I can get cleaner lines. The tutorial I have explains cleaning up line work with the polygon selection tool in photoshop.

As for which PS version to go for, I always liked 5.5 and 6. I'm currently using 7 and don't know what new features CS has- maybe someone can fill me in?

i don't use (or know

) most of the new CS features, but I believe there are (again) some new layer blending options and such.

I have two problems with this Photoshop tutorial. First of all, no matter how much a adjust the brightness and contrast, my drawings still look jagged and broken up. And second, there's a little panel you use to select different options (example: Layers, History, Channels, etc). When I'm on photoshop, the only option I can select is Layers. How do I fix this?

Lines still being jagged?- sounds like the initial scan is to blame. Be sure to scan in greyscale mode (not B/W), that your image resolution isn't too low. I'd suggest 300dpi- standard printing res.

Not being able to see the Channels? - There should be tabs next to the layer tab (in the layer window at the top). If you click them you can change between Channels and path tabs etc. If those tabs are not there, you can select them to display by clicking the "window" menu at the top, then clicking the appropriate tab to be displayed on the screen.

Some people have better luck using Image - Adjustments - Threshold for filtering out dust and artifacts on line art. It is basically the same effect as contrast and brightest adjustment, but it's more directly designed for that pupose.

Personally, for most of my work, I use a blue color-erase pencil for the line work, then I try and redraw it in Illustrator. Good news is that you get perfect line art, bad news is that it takes forever and doesn't have any stroke variation.

Sorry I haven't replied for a long time, but i've been on vacation. I scanned my drawings in greyscale and the resolution was at 300dpi. I tried ajusting the brightness/contarst and levels, and my drawing still turns out jagged and broken up. As for not being able to find the 'Channels' tab, i looked in the 'window' menu. There were no options that would display the channels tab. The only options were "Show Navigator, Show Info, Show Options, Show Color, Show Swatches, Show Brushes and Show Layers." I tried all of these options and none of them dispayed the channels tab. But I went the 'Adjust, Curves' option in the 'Image' menu. When you select this it opens a new window thing. At the top of this window it says 'Channels:' And you get to choose from RGB, Red Green and Blue. But its still different from the normal Channels Window. So I guess im still stuck. Can anyone help me?

Not sure how else to access the channels panel other than from the "window" menu. You could try searching for the answer in the Photoshop help files under the "help" menu- providing that's there!
