When it comes to drawing and art, do you find more motivation comes from people praising your work, making you want to draw more to get more praise? OR are you more motivated if you receive a little criticism, 'coz you wanna prove you will get good and have the last laugh?

As with most things in life, and like what was said earlier, balance is the key. I personally think that being forced will get the ball rolling and get the job done, but you need to be self motivated and have the drive if you want to make something good something great. On the flip side, if the only form of motivation you have is to make something great and get praise for it, you'll be hitting a few low notes that might derail your artistic train for a while.

My personal philisophy is this:

Start it because you have to. Make it great because you can.

Well, it works in concept... not exactly all that often in execution however...

On an unrelated note... it's been a while since I posted here, good to do so again. And nice new avi pic Tri_kento, if I am correct that it is indeed new (Sorry, my memory from the last time I posted is a bit fuzzy).

As for myself, I'm still a little undecided. How I react to comments depends what mood I'm in at the time...

If I'm in an insecure mood and someone criticises my work, it'll most likely put me off finishing the work and wanting to draw anything new. However, if I'm in a confident mood, it makes me become more motivated to work hard to prove I can produce good work.

Generally I would always prefer encouragement than put downs to motivate me. If I can sense people genuinely appreciate the effort I've put into my work, it will help inspire me to do more. If it seems people aren't too impressed then I feel there's not much point in trying!
