We are all here because we like and enjoy drawing art, right. Everyone is working hard, improving their skills, cg coloring, shading and just getting better which is very great.

So what does everyone want to do with their artistic skills? Do you want to work for a comic book company or draw and create characters for video games? Maybe paint portraits of landscapes or work on an animated picture like the Lion King or Ninja Scroll. Is art just a hobby for you? What are your future goals as an artist?

That's a really hard question to answer, I think most people here are trying to figure that out right know. I thought it might be fun to draw comics and junk but I watched lot's of bio's on comic making and it seems that that franchize ain't doing so well these days.

I would say right now I find drawing as hobby, it helps me waste time when am board and junk, also really relaxes you if u had a hard day or something. Ethier way I don't think of drawing as a career choice, unless as a 2nd job just for shits and giggles.

I think I might become a custome painter, like for cars,bikes,wheel chairs lol any thing that needs a fresh look! art has alot to do witht that.

Good question!
I'd wanna make art my full time job providing: A)I was making decent money with it, and: B) I was good (to a degree I'm happy with) at it.

Providing both of those criteria were satisfied, I'd wanna be a comic book artist, video game concept artist or animator doing anime suff!

However, as things are, I think I'd like to focus more on graphic design and web site design. Still being creative and using graphics and lay out, with less focus on illustration and painting.

Hmmm... myself? As much as I hate to say it, I have never really been much of a visual artist in personality as in trade... that is, the visual arts never really came natural to me and I'm more of a writer by nature than an artist or animator. My passion comes with story telling and creating characters, so my goal, albeit not absolute, is to design characters for animation series or write scripts and make the two work together with synergetic energy.

This is an good question. But first I have to say that I am shocked that Bomu say's that he would like to do art as a full time job. It is hard for me to believe that he does not do it now. I guess that I always assumed he did. I would be curious to know he does do. Art is definatly his calling.
I would like to design logos for a living. The reason for this is because I feel that the are far easier pieces. Not so time consuming. I find the more time I put into a work, the better it is. My problem is patience.
Everything I do that is more complex, I see plenty of ways I could improve it, but I can only bare to look at it so long.
I just started doing Manga and almost all I have learned in this subject has been through Ben Krefta's book's.
I work now as a freelancer, but most of my work that I get paid for is metal sculptures, and tattoos.
If anyone is looking for a high paying art job, I would highly recommend studying the art of tattoos. At least in my area (Wisconsin) it is in high demand.

I've been drawing for so long yet I still consider myself too much of a novice artist to ever succeed even with more practice.

I'd like to get into the anime tv/movie producing industry, perferribly one in the U.S. lol if there are any at all. What to do though?Hmm well my drawing talent is pathetic considering how long I've been doing it as a hobby.My goal would be to have some of anime stories and characters turned into anime series or at the very least manga if nothing else.Lol too bad I have no idea how to achieve such a radical dream.

Thanks I work primarily as a freelance illustrator and designer, but this is by no means a full time position. As I say, it'd be cool to go into work, get given a project by my boss, then work at it until completion. Unfortunately being an illustrator means working alone and finding projects and clients to work for. Regular work can be hard to come by, if like me you start out with zero contacts. So in-between I need to find other jobs if I am to keep the money coming in on a regular basis.

Hiltz, if you've got between $20K and $100K you could have your own anime made from scratch! It's something I considered if I ever won the lottery

Speaking of this, I am about to give up looking for a job and go on some kind of arty/design/computer course, while I build up a portfolio for advertising firms. Yay! I was sick of looking for jobs. Think I might do a course on digital art, 3d rendering or something or maybe animation

gonna move back to england anyway. anyone know of any good places for that stuff in london?

u know shadow, u could try and go buy a how to draw anime/manga book. Might i suggest bomu's "The art of manga" it might just be the best thing since sliced bread.

and it only cost about 20-30$ canadian. good deal.

The official HTDM line of books is good, however, there is redundancy between them, and many of them have applications and techniques that utilize resources hard to obtain outside of Japan (For example, Asia apparently has a completely different system of pen nibs than the rest of the work, and good luck in hell finding screen tones), for this reason, a more universally applicable book, such as Bomu's is very handy when it comes to bang for your buck. I also believe that it has two versions correct? The one that comes with the art supplies and one without right? Such material could be quite handy and hard to obtain outside of Japan.
