one of the Manga books i've got sayd to draw my character anude so i can get the body right, isn't that abit "wrong" coz i can only draw boys of about 10-13 years old, and adults are just to hard at the moment, so i was wondering if i should draw them like that or maybe i'll get in trouble if i do, can anyone help me on this, please?

Dear it's not about drawing what you can, it's drawing what you can't! Nothing is "too hard" it's just some things are going to need a lot, lot, lot more practice than others. We all suck in the beginning...

The sooner you start something so tough, the sooner you will get better at it.

Ezekiel 25:17

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Okay the reason you draw your charaters naked is because your clothes naturally follow the contors of the body so if you get the anatamy of the body right addding clothes over the top is easier and the results look better. Oh and you dont need to go into detail with the body if it is going to be clothed afterwards you are just defining the shapes imagine they are wearing a wetsuit or similar just a really close fitting one with no thinkness!

And KaiserD is perfectly right drawing what you find hard is the only way to get better at it! And i would suggest you look at some human anatomy muscle groupings proportions etc this will help you develop your style. Get Bomu's book its quite good covers all the basics Amazon link the other thing you could try is to draw realistic figures for a while then move back to manga style after you have got the basics of human anatomy right, its easier to styalise something if you know where it started from!

Anatomy books will help you with that. You could go to your library or somewhere like Waterstones. I have one that is about dynamic movement and another that's more about body structure, it was made by a woman who used to be a medical illustrator .

Or alternatively if you don't wanna go to the library and ask for books with pics of naked women in, why not try a magazine like FHM or if you're really lucky (and guttsy!) ask a friend/girlfriend to pose for you - even if they wear a small tight top and pants you should have enough to work from.

I came up with another idea - you got a PS2 or X-BOX? Well check out games like GTA where you can remove your characters top - the detail isn't great but should be anotomically correct enough to get you started!

Thanks Jats - you just gave me a whole new wave of motivation to get REALLY good at this!

I remember I borrowed a book about life drawing from this lady who worked at an art store.
They have naked pictures in there...
Really, when I looked in the book I was like:
0.0-wow...

So I guess you could find a book on life drawing.

Wow, I don't even know how I came across this.

Anyways, to go way down to basics, you can draw anyone "nude", and not have a sense of wrongness.

There's a difference between "Naked" and "Nude". If you're naked, you are intent on sexually inticing a viewer. If you're nude, it's purely for art. Art History 101. e.e;

Because you're drawing children, the best way to avoid the aspect of nudity (as it would be), is just plop a speedo on there, ya? It's form fitting and hardly takes away from the anatomy of a figure, it also can't be considered wrong. Human body studies are as old as old can get, and since it's a nude drawing, you really can't consider it in the wrong.

- We're all mature, sensible people here (right?), so it's not a problem. Just be sure to put a nudity warning in the title just to let ppl know.
