How do you CG black hair to make it more life like?

black hair is very dark brown. so use a very dark brown to flat out the hair area then dodge and burn certain areas.

Dodge and burn look tacky when overused or used in the wrong places.

Try using the drop tool and pick some colours out of existing pictures that you like as you learn what colours to use where appropriate.
