Something that's psychologically twisted (not in the hentai way, but like Lain, Evangelion, ...), or has a storyline that makes you think "What on earth is going on?" You could say the cult genre X3

Fighting, martial arts, samurai era, cyberpunk, sci-fi, fantasy, mecha, monsters & demons and comedy too
There was this site I visited, might hve been a message board and the guy listed like 30 different genres! There's a lot more to anime than meets the eye..

uhu allways keep in mind that it is just a different medium, and you will find everything on it that you can find on normal TV (for example).

Yeah but it's not anime style! That's what makes it great!

*blushes* the only anime movie I've ever seen was Metropolis... I have no clue what genre that belongs to... I spent a lot of the film going: "er. ...what?" - but that might just be me....
amazing film, btw... I would sell my soul to own it on vhs... but stupid Blockbuster won't sell me it. "Only just come out", apparently. Rascals!

I'll watch pretty much anything, but I like sci-fi/western (Trigun!) the best. It's a genre I like to write about as well.

Broadly speaking, comedy and action though I'm pretty easy to please.
I have been known to go for drama, romance, sci-fi, and more as well depending on how well I think things were done. I'm not into mecha anime but liked Gundam 08th MS Team and Martian Successor Nadesico. Not faves but likes.
Oh, there are some magical girl series I like such as Card Captor Sakura.

gotta love those animes! ^.^ sci-fi anime is my fav becuase it makes you think and it seems to make the characters unforgettable, Akira and EVA are my favorites, i havent seen lain yet *i dont want to...dont feel like crying ;_;*
just when i think ive understood akira..some other fan tells me differently x.X
and eva...jeez..im still working out the basics!!
my next choice of genre would be comedy, senseless scary comedy like Ranma 1/2!

I usually go in for anything that has some great animation or good character design. anymore i just look to anime for reference steal designs or inspiration.... I think it would be great (if it hasnt been done before) to start a thread listing like everyones top 10-15 best anime. Oh yeah Neo you should watch it... its a feast for the eyes and it like Akira you have to watch it several times to kinda "get" whats goin on ( and if you get it on DVD you get a tiny dvd with it!!). Oh i just watched the Evangelion Death and Rebirth...does anyone know what Shinji does in one part of that??( if youve seen it you KNOW what im talking about).

I didn't know you were from the UK SilentDan!.. Or did I?
Yeah, I've been watching CNX a lot (Channel 244 on Digital for anyone that's interested). It doesn't seem quite as good now that they dont show as many Hong Kong action movies at 10pm. 2002 was really cool and so was this other one about Shaolin monks escaping from this booby trapped prison. I can't remember what it was called tho! I got up to about episode 16 of Cowboy Beebop before missing a few eps, then deciding not to see the rest incase I missed out some useful info and it makes the later eps hard to understand! I think my bro has all the eps on DVD, so I'll have to get them off him some time

Yup im in the UK, just up from Kent, Dagenham (south east London). Got lotsa mates in Kent. They still show some cool movies, and they have started Cowboy Bebop again incase you missed any. I loved 2002, maybe a lil cheesy but thats what I liked, that other one with the booby trapped place was called Burning Paradise, that one was very cool too, I have managed to tape most of the movies. Whereabouts in Kent are you Bomu?
