Why am I the only one who cares about anime! All of my friends ridicule me when I just watched something depressing, and am down because of it. I mean, is it so hard to believe?

But seriously, some people don't get it. For me anime (and manga) is more than just cartoons. As a manga artist, to the side, I kinda feel connected to my drawings as if they were real people... am I the only one?

Man you're not alone, but I have friends who like it, but not as much as I do. I mean if I'm a little depressed I'll draw something depressing, but if I'm happy I'll draw something happy

Fate is in Heaven, the armor is on the breast, success is with the legs. Go to the battlefield firmly confident of victory, and you will come home with no wounds whatever. Engage in combat fully determined to die and you will be alive; wish to survive in the battle and you will surely meet death. When you leave the house determined not to see it again you will come home safely; when you have any thought of returning you will not return. You may not be in the wrong to think that the world is always subject to change, but the warrior must not entertain this way of thinking, for his fate is always determined.

I actually got sent to the school counselor, because the art teacher was worried about the stuff I had been drawing. The night before, Rei Ayanami died, and She is one of my all-time fave characters

I know it's hard. I've never had friends interested in anime or manga to the same degree I am. The fact I've not had people I could meet up with and talk to about the coolness which is anime is a bummer! And it's hard to stay motivated to draw this sorta stuff when you have no one truly appreciating what you do within your circle of friends. Athough if you step outside the circle you'll find it's a different story. It's good to know there are millions of fans out there and you're not alone.

SturmDragoon, I think if your friends are giving you a hard time for liking anime, they totally need to grow up! They hate it 'cos they dont understand it. Give 'em time and hopefully they will come around and accept the idea you like this stuff. Just dont try to force you opinions or interests on other people or it ends up having the opposite effect to what you want!

Good luck

Wow theres alot of rage in this thread.
As for me I have known how cool anime/manga is ever since channel 4 first showed akira many many many years ago and they sold the Guyver on video at ourprice, it has been more a case of my friends catching up although they now like DBZ but hey were not all perfect.

Hey sturmdragoon I agree with you I have a friend who thinks anime and manga is weird just because the mouths go from very small to unrealalisticly big.

(Just a note he is scrawny and I am like the hulk to him so he doesn't disagree too much)HEHEHE

Being an manga artist is great but u should really not get that connected to your art not saying u can't enjoy wat u do ,but to feel as there real people well i spos in away if u were to make manga comics not just drawings well then u kinda have to treat them like real people so u can determain emotion and situation. But if your just drawing for fun of it or art gallery u can't realy hold on that tightly since well if your doing gallerys most of the time u sell your pics just a thought ^_^!

Hey all, just thought I'd join in. I seem to have built up some kind of fan club for my signs here at uni - loads of people like my artwork, and wanted it plastered across their doors . I haven't had any problems with people who aren't into it - in fact, I bumped into a guy who knows a lot more about it than I do. And the moral of this story is - university is cool, because people treat you more like a human being than in high school. Hope that goes some way to making someone feel better, since I noticed stuff about the lack of appreciation for people's art - there are people who admire it out there.

I am 19, Ive been a fan of the manga/anime genre for 5 years or so, drawing since I was 7.

As far as the real characters, before I ever put pencil to paper, I have worked out the ideals and quirks and personalities that make up my drawings. Then from there I create the drawing, so my art is near and dear to my heart. I suppose I base most of them off of people I know. I don't actually do a whole lot of gallery pieces, mostly the comic format, though I don't show them to a whole lot of people.

Is it so wrong to see cartoon charas as real? If it is wrong, then what about live movies, they're all written charas, played by people. How can somebody say anime is bogus then spend the afternoon crying when their fave soap star got killed on the show. I hate these double standards

I don't like to be bitchy that often but this is a special day today :P . For 1 anime and a soap opraes are 2 diffrent things anime takes like 3 weeks to draw 1 eps (prob more ?) while a soap opra is like 2 days to write and shoot. And the reason people cry about soap opraes i because they can relate to "Real People" NOT DRAWINGS and if u cry over anime that really says not that much for u, i am not saying people can't enjoy anime but as was just saying Drawings/real people (if u can't tell there's a diffrence .

Pardon the language. One thing on my mind though is why most manga drawers make certen body portions, mainly in women, unrealalistic? Just woundering.
