I've noticed when I watch anime that has subtitles that sometimes when someone says someone else's name they add a hypened word at the end which I am guessing is Japanese. The words I have noticed the most are -San, -Kun and -Chun. Eg, I was watching Gungrave and one of the boss guys kept calling Brandon, Brndon-kun or something.

Is this like a pet name sort of thing, like a nickname???

don't hold it to me, but i think that when a girl says Kun at they end of a boys name it is showing that she likes him and if a boy says chan at the end it's that same.

i think.

Sorry. I made a mistake.
-chan-female(friend)
-kun-male (friend)
-sama-lord/lady (someone of honor status)
-san-adult (respect)
-senpai-upperclassman (respect)
-jiji-senior citizen
does that help?

i doubt it. most asian countries can be very sexist and discriminatory. im not bagging asian people or anything, it's just culture in those countries.
