Just a quick question to see if Grandia needs to be played before Grandia 2 in order for you to understand the plot?

I number 2 on my B-day last month, and it's the only game I have on my PS2 I havn't played/completed yet!

Good stuff. So all the characters and locations are different too, or just the story?

And how long did it take you to complete? I know what I'm like with games, as soon as I sit down with an RPG, I forget all about my other commitments!

I completed Lunar Silver Star Story, but never bought the second one due to cash flow problems when it was released. Lunar SSS was a very cool RPG tho. I've played better, but not one to miss if you're a fan of 2D rpgs

Ohh I love the Grandia games!! But yeah Grandia 2 isn't a true sequel, much like what Final Fantasy do.

Grandia II is awesome.. I think it has the best Battle System over any other RPG that I've played.

I thought it was good in the way that you could move around and cancel/delay the enemies moves with critical attacks. Although it was not that different from things like the ATB in ff7 I still agree with mojo it is the best (I like it the best even).
Grandia 2 is also one of the only rpg's I have ever felt compelled to finish.

Go here and look at the guage bar in the bottom right corner.. It is turn based, but there is a wait time after you give the character his/her command. It alos shows the enemies turn/wait command..this makes it a bit more tactical and interactive..you are able to counter and evade a hit jut by selecting a spacific enemie. the wait time is the time it takes for the person to get to it's target (movement).. if you choose the right enemie you could evade this by moving to another enemy, and that can cause the enemy that is attacking you loose all its moving time and its turn just stops. Sorry I can't explain things very well.. i hope that gave you a brief idea...

The times battle system sounds interesting. Maybe similar to FFX's turn system?
I've been playing FFX for over 70 hours now and am nearing completion of the game, so I may give Grandia 2 a go at last. Although, I still have several other games that need playing. I'll see how I feel

Its not turn based Bomu.
You can make a move when you have recovered from the delay of your last move, different moves give you different amounts of delay.
I would definately play it next, unless you have z.o.e or armoured core or anything with mecha in it!

Different moves giving different amounts of delay sounds like FFX, but I'm sure I'll see it for myself soon enough. Heh, not reallyt a mecha fan. I've still got XenoGears on PS1 which I've been waiting to start for years! Im one of those people with more money that time by the sounds of it

I envy you!
Yeah playing it for yourself is best its not very complicated as such, I'm just crap at explaining things. My heart genuinly sinks every time I hear some one say im not into mecha though. I just cant comprehend the reasoning behind such a way of thinking. When I rule the world I'll make it a law!.

I still havn't even started Grandia 2 yet- despite posting this original message nearly a year ago! lol

I love RPGs for the stories, but I wish there was less of the monotonous turn based fighting. I recently finished FFX after some 85 hours of play time, which could have been 185 hours had I tried to level up each character to max stats, gain all secret weapons and defeat all the evil Aeons and wotnot.. *thinks of a new thread to post*
