As for me, the first real anime I saw was Akira several years back. I suppose that's the case for a lot of westerners as it was one of the films that jump-started anime beyond Japan.

One of the earliest (coz I can't surely tell which one was first), and the one I remember best, was The Mysterious Cities of Gold I used to watch it on french tv (didn't understand a word) when I was a whee lil brat XD

Hm lets see I guess the first (Adult)Animes I saw, where Fist of the northstar and streetfighter animated movie. But at that time I was allready into anime/manga for sometime.
But Plastic Little holds a special place in my heart. It was the first movie I bought and it was also the first release of the first german anime only distributor (ah the good old times ).

yeah Mysterious Citys of Gold was my first but i didn't realise i was anime at the time (didn't know the word 'anime'). it was only after watching Akira did i truly understan the differences in the diff animations.
to be fair tho, i'm more interested in Manga than anime. i don't know why (maybe cos i don't have to put up with the usually shite voice acting - yes i know about subtitles ). My fav Manga are: (while i was collecting which hasn't been for a good few years):
Maison Ikokku Akira Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Gold Digger Battle Chasers

Hey I got that on DVD recently, but I discovered (too late) that it was a bloody FOX family edition, which lacked the original Japanese voices >_<

When i was real little i remember catching episodes of Speed Racer right after He-man. Later on i remember watching Robotech. This was all before coining the phrase "Anime". In high school it was Deffinately Akira!

Other than day time kids shows like MCoG and the Moomins etc, Akira was my first! Must have been at least 10 years ago. I got seriously into anime around about the mid 90s which was the best as far as the UK anime scene was concerned - you had a load of new releases coming out each month and I was even member of the Manga club! Back then it was stuff like Battle Angel Alita, Akira, FOTNS, The Guyver, Dangaioh and Project A-ko! Those were the days!

My first was Pizza Cats, don't laugh. Used to skive off to watch it. Then Akira. Faves would have to be Junk Boy, 3x3eyes, Spriggan and Dirty Pair. I just loves armourcloth bikinis, very fun.
I keep watching Are you being bummed (served) too lately on UKGOLD, and Columbo on CH5.

SongSuiHua, quit trying to be so cool. First anime we really watched was Fist of the North Star and you know it. Happy to see old friends, Wade?

Geez the first anime had to have been Speed Racer. I admit when I look back on it now I despise the evilness that is Speed Racer. Bad animation and how they walked really was annoying. My favorite anime to date is Reign the Conqueror. Go Alexander, Time to destroy the world!

I liked Outlaw Star too. That grappler ship combat is quite original, at least ive never seen it b4 or since.
Am I the only one whos seen Junk Boy ?.
Does anyone know of an anime with westernised mecha (battletech, mechwarrior style), and preferabley a good storyline ?. I dont care much for eastern mecha.
